Debbie and the Business
(kinda sounds like a 60's rock group!)
Yes there really is a Debbie Lyn! Debbie Owens that is, Lyn is her middle name. Debbie Lyn's Costumes (also misspelled as: Debbie Lyns, Debby Lyn's, Debby Lynn's, Debby Lynns, Debby Lyns, Debie Lyn's, Debie Lynn's, Debie Lynns, Debi Lyn's and - well, you get the idea...), started from meager beginnings in Debbie's garage. Theater costuming was her specialty. As her talents and subsequent demand increased, Debbie decided to take the big plunge and in 1993, opened a year round sales and rental costume store. As they say, the rest is history and now it’s more than just a costume store.
It actually began as a dream that’s turned into a love and passion for costuming people. Debbie is described as outgoing, gregarious, affable, giving and generous by people that know her. If you combine that with her degree in Religion and Philosophy from Illinois College, the years of experience as accounting supervisor at GTE (no ages!), and her ongoing involvement in business, civic and charitable activities, you have one outstanding individual.
As president of the National Costumers Association, Debbie is known both nationally and locally in the costuming world. The City of Sunnyvale awarded Debbie the Outstanding Business Person of the Year award in 2001. Debbie is past Chairman of the Board and a current board member of the Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce and is currently active in the Mountain View, Sunnyvale and Santa Clara Chambers of Commerce. She also serves on the Board of Directors of Sunnyvale Community Services. The enthusiasm and energy Debbie creates is incredibly infectious as you will find when you deal with her, the employees or any of her colleagues. Actions speak louder than words, and as a business, everyone at Debbie Lyn's is motivated to giving and serving you, the customer and valued person, the best!
Dianne
Dianne has been doing drama for about 14 years. Sometimes in the store she is known as the "drama queen", but that's another story. She likes to sleep, walk (not together!) and go to movies, plays, concerts. Also a favorite is to dress people up. She has been a dresser on shows at Paramounts Great America. She is in to sewing and needlework, and loves museums, history, art and reading. At Debbie Lyn's, Dianne likes to work with kids, so look for her in Diagon Alley, our childrens section. Other areas of expertise include Victorian, Medieval, the world of Fantasy and Renaissance, (allegedly, someone heard her say "Men in Renaissance garb, YUM!").
Lee Ann
20 years experience is just the start of her qualifications. In fact, She gets more done in her part time capacity then most people do working full time! Lee Ann is all over the store, straightening, tagging, hanging, washing, answering phones, sort of like a silent Tazmanian Devil! (Don't put your jacket down, she'll have it washed, tagged and hung in a heartbeat). Straightened ,organized and looking good is the motto when Lee Ann's around, especially in the Cut Above. That's the area for unique, exceptional and one of a kind costumes and vintage clothes. Relaxation for Lee Ann means traveling, (Hawaii is the favorite) swimming, walking, reading and listening to music.
Adana
Adana loves doing custom costumes and putting together outfits and makeup for customers. Her talents include designing and creating costumes and jewelry. She is active in sewing, sculpting, drawing and painting both at work and for relaxation. Her diversity extends to participation in Goth clubs, flamenco dance, story writing, playing video games and watching movies. The biggie though, is the Sci-fi/Fantasy/Anime conventions. Add history of movies and comic books to her creative thinking and a vivid imagination and Adana's resume would read like a fantasy novel. And if that isn't enough, she designs and runs a Haunted house during Halloween with all proceeds going to charity. She will be the one with the helpful smile and excitement in her eyes.
Rachell
Putting people into costumes and making them look good is Rachell's Forte'. She makes it look easy. She has been able to tap into her English, drama and creative writing passion and background. Experimenting with unconventional costume designs really gets her creative juices flowing. Renaissance, Medieval, Storybook and Fantasy are her specialties. Also, according to Rachell, she is "very fond of the I'm Too Sexy rack". Rachell's diversities include learning Gaelic and Japanese "one phrase at a time", reading, Karaoke, camping, hiking, working the Renaissance Faire and running an rpg with friends. You will usually find her "dressed for the part" when working at Debbie Lyn's.
Steven
Don’t let the calm demeanor fool you. Behind the twinkle in his eyes lies the mind of a movie, cartoon and video game fanatic. he quickly learned the value of his knowledge when he started as a inexperienced seasonal stock person during Halloween. He stayed on with Debbie Lyn’s and has become the go-to person for almost everything in the store. He is dedicated, has a great memory, an eye for detail and takes on tasks like a pitbull. He is affectionately known as “the machine” for his get-it- done attitude. He would describe his mind-set as somewhere between Darth Vader and Buzz Lightyear. Because of his outlook, he is also very well rounded. To put it in his words, “I learn something everyday. Whether it be makeup, jewelry, Victorian clothes, or ??”. So, if you need anything from Star Wars.to starlets, Mario Bros to monster masks or pirates to pixies, look for the quiet guy with the heart of all the characters in Oz.
Karsten
Recently, when asked, what do you do for fun and relaxation, Karsten's reply was "I collect spores, molds and fungi"! Innovation is an understatement when describing Karsten. His expertise includes Star Trek, Space and Aliens, mummys, the weird wild west(?), latex molds, masks and appliances, scary blood and gore , props, monsters, film directing and most importantly an incredible imagination. His start was in high school theater and then extended to several Haunted house attractions over the last ten years. He is a comical and fun person to work with for both adults and children, especially when it comes to costume scenarios, unique characters and unusual party themes. He is easy to spot with his long red hair, and make sure to ask him about the Value Zone. However, be forewarned; He characterizes himself as "having a mocking demeanor with a used car salesmen's sensibilities".
